Our School

History

A lifetime resident of Charles County, William B. Wade was extremely active in the community and believed strongly in a quality educational system. Wade, known as "Willie" to his friends, was born Nov. 10, 1881, in Hughesville, Md. He lived in Hughesville until his death on July 11, 1964.

Wade was active in a number of different organizations throughout his life. In 1932 he was appointed to the Board of Directors at Physician's Memorial Hospital in La Plata. He also organized the Knights of St. John No. 309 and was an active member of the Republican Central Committee.

The Governor of Maryland appointed Wade to serve as a member of the Charles County Board of Education from 1951 to 1957. While on the Board, Wade helped open a new school in the Malcolm area of Charles County, which gave many minority teachers an opportunity to acquire professional positions in the county. (Malcolm Elementary School served as a public school for blacks from 1955 to 1967.)

Vision

The staff of William B. Wade Elementary School will create and maintain a learning community that will enable all students to achieve high academic standards, as indicated by the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards, in order to succeed in the global economy of the 21st Century. Every child will be taught the strategies needed to achieve his/her potential through the use of a variety of instructional opportunities including Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Cooperation among the child, home, school, and community is essential to every child’s success.

Mission

The mission of William B. Wade Elementary School is to develop the whole child by fostering his/her creativity, building self-esteem, responsibility and cooperation and by instilling the value of learning within a safe and secure environment.
